Tekken 8 is the eleventh installment in the Tekken series and the eighth canonical one. The first one was released back in 1994. All parts of the series sell well, are re-released, and are popular alongside other fighting games like Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter.
One of the reasons for Tekken 8's popularity is its style and visual implementation. A slightly bizarre mix of ancient clans, robots, secret agents, and even bears and a fighter with a leopard's head create a very interesting atmosphere. The same can be said about the balance of absurd humor and pompous drama. They constantly intertwine and keep the players from getting bored.
Smooth and realistic animation makes the fights as natural as possible. To create the movements of the characters, the developers involve martial arts masters, transferring real techniques from Taido, Capoeira, and other martial arts into the game. During some strikes, the camera switches to a cinematic angle, which further enhances the impression of the game.
The graphics deserve special attention. They are almost perfect; you can see the pores on the fighters' skin and the texture of the fabric. The decorations are impressive in scale, complemented by perfectly matched music, so the game truly takes your breath away.
Tekken 8 – Gameplay
Tekken 8 will delight players with truly three-dimensional fights. The camera in Tekken 8, as in most fighting games, looks at the fighters from the side. But characters can move not only back and forth but also sideways, significantly expanding combat possibilities. The ability to move sideways allows for more effective dodging of strikes and performing complex moves. For example, you can push the enemy against the wall. If the arena's location is composed of several floors and rooms, you can find yourself in another room by breaking through the wall or floor – it looks extremely spectacular.
Main Gameplay Features:
- Simple combat system with four buttons. Each specific button is tied to a specific limb.
- Intuitive moves. Even if you have never played Tekken 8 or any other game in the series before, you can easily understand how everything works. For example, to punch with both fists, you need to press the corresponding buttons simultaneously. Although each character has at least a hundred moves, learning to perform them is much easier than it might seem at first glance.
- Each fighter has their unique fighting style. Consider this. For example, the android Alisa can fly and use bombs and saws. It's better to be prepared for such a turn of events in advance. But among the 32 fighters, you will surely find one that fully matches your style.
Tekken 8 – What's New?
Compared to previous versions, Tekken 8 now allows the fighter's health to be restored. Some strikes cause damage even through a block. However, the taken health can be returned if you attack the enemy. Therefore, the game becomes more dynamic, with more attacks.
Tekken 8 introduces the Heat combat mode. It can be activated only once per round. This mode allows you to deal damage through blocks, quickly close the distance to a knocked-back opponent, and use new moves. Heat can be activated by pressing a button or automatically after performing one of the special moves marked with a blue and white icon.
A special gauge indicates the possibility of using the mode. When it runs out, the player loses the ability to use Heat until the end of the round. But note – while the player is hitting the enemy, the gauge does not deplete. This mode greatly expands the character's possibilities, and its proper use can effectively influence the fight's outcome.
The gameplay of Tekken 8 has become noticeably more aggressive. Defensive practices are no longer as effective, and Heat further diminishes their significance. It's much more convenient and effective to constantly attack. And for defense, you can use dodging, parrying, and other dynamic methods.
Cross-platform capability has appeared. Unlike the seventh part, in Tekken 8, PC and console users can face off in online battles.
Single-player Modes in Tekken 8
To enjoy Tekken 8, you don't necessarily need to gather a company; there are several single-player modes:
- Character Episodes – several fights for one hero. If you win five matches, you can watch a clip dedicated to the character.
- Arcade Battles – instead of five simple matches, eight challenging ones. At the end, one of several bosses with unique moves and abilities awaits.
- Arcade Mode allows a beginner to participate in a large competition, the difficulty of which gradually increases.
- Ghost Battles. In Tekken 8, these are called computer opponents who try to mimic the real player's fighting style. It's much more interesting than playing with ordinary bots, as the ghosts' playing style is much more intriguing.
- Training Mode. This is a good solution for those who are just starting to play Tekken 8.
